Among the 44 musos coming up for our 18th Great Tropical Jazz Party expect some old friends and familiar faces as well as some exciting young talent and amazing established players making their first visit to our Party.
Old friends include Ingrid James, just back from gigging in France and recording in the States; fantastic Sydney vocalist,
Di Bird; renown educators Miroslav Bukovski, John Mackey and John Hoffman.
New friends include Col Loughnan - one of Australia’s finest and most experienced reed players, arrangers and teachers,
with a successful career spanning more than 45yrs in the Jazz, Pop, and Rock arenas. (Think gigs like: Frank Sinatra,
Sammy Davis Jnr, Freddie Hubbard, Shirley Bassey, and even Johnny O’Keefe!).
Col will be joined by three other of Sydney’s best - Steve Brian, Craig Scott and Ron Lemke.
Other new friends include the exciting young talent of Lachlan Hawkins and James Ball along with soon-to-be friends Helen Svoboda and three young vocalists from Brisbane playing their first festival together and vying for our annual Encouragement Award.
And then there’s Ben Hauptmann - always pushing the boundaries.
Finally, there’s the 18 member 1RAR Band, also returning after quite a few years absence to swing their full big-band sound.
